GLee Club handbook:
Club Overview:
The purpose of Glee Club is to allow ANY 7th-12th grade Bridgman Public School student the opportunity to join a vocal music group. The director reserves the right to dismiss a student from the Glee Club should they behave in such a way as to become a detriment to the group.
Glee Club is a performance-based vocal ensemble. It is set up in a “show choir” format, in that most of the songs will be choreographed as well as sung. Students who join the Glee Club will be asked for a commitment of at least one semester. Members will be required to attend at least one rehearsal per week (3:30-4:30 pm Tuesdays and Wednesdays) and to perform in the Holiday and Spring concerts. The director will work with those students who wish to participate in the Glee Club, but who also have valid conflicts.
Students who join Glee Club will be responsible for learning their music and choreography. They will need to practice outside of rehearsal time in order to maintain a high level of excellence within the group.
Each Glee Club member will be asked to pay $10.00 to help cover the cost of t-shirts, which will serve as part of their performance uniform.

What should you expect in Glee Club?
During the first week of Glee Club, each student will be asked to sing for the director to have their range determined. Once the students are placed in a section by range, the director will commence with voice matching in an effort to get the best sound possible through the seating/standing arrangement. The voice matching process DOES require some solo singing. This is very important to the process. Every student is required to participate in this activity. Glee Club will be set up as more of a “show choir”. Therefore, not only will you learn fun and exciting music, but you will also be learning choreography for many of the songs that you sing. Once the music is learned, a portion of each Glee Club rehearsal will be used to either teach or clean choreography. Practice is expected of every Glee Club member. Because we only meet one to two times a week, practice outside of rehearsal time is crucial to the success of the group. Our goal for practice at home is between 15-20 minutes per day. Choose a time that does not interfere with any other activity so that you may focus on your voice, your music, and your choreography. Always practice for results and accuracy. Remember: it is not the length of time you practice that matters, it is what you accomplish in a short period that produces results. One of the main functions of the Glee Club is performing. The performance is the culmination of preparation. We only have two major performances per year, therefore performances are required activities. |
